History


The Fort Albany reserve originated as an important Hudson's Bay Company trading post. The reserve boundaries were described in the James Bay Treaty of 1905 - Treaty No. 9.During the 1950's, old Fort Albany was abandoned and the people separated into two distinct communities: Fort Albany and Kashechewan.
